We as humans are constantly in a pursuit for happiness. Only problem is that during our pursuit, we sometimes end up going after the wrong things. This lack of direction leads us to forget what is really important. Here are 4 tips that I have used to find happiness in my life, and hopefully you can use them to find happiness in yours:

Almost Everything I do in my life is ultimately done to make myself happy or satisfied. This basic rule of happiness applies not just to me but to every human in this world.

Understand what brings happiness

Wealth has never brought man happiness. I could drive the newest Ferrari and own the largest house, but still a man living in the slums could be happier than me.

What I found was that like other emotions happiness is a state of mind, so it is something that is constantly changing according to your life.

So what makes you happy won’t make others happy because your life and their lives are completely different.

So to find happiness you must go to the core of human living: family, friends etc. and understand physical goods will never give you “lasting” happiness.

Be Optimistic and Smile

An optimistic person is someone who perceives good things happening to them. This ability to see the future in a positive light is fundamental in not just achieving happiness but in achieving “anything” in life.

Whenever I face a problem, I always like to first visualize a positive outcome. This optimistic outlook not just calms me, but it makes the situation easier to handle.

As for smiling it is something that you should do automatically. By smiling you give yourself a burst of happiness and positive energy. You can try smiling even right now, I guarantee you that you will automatically feel better.

Try to smile so much, that you engrave a permanent smile on your face.

Forgive

This to me is one of the most important things you can do in your life. Things happen and people mess up. But hey isn’t that what makes us human?

You need to learn how to let go.

If somebody does something to hurt you, then there’s no point hurting yourself more. By removing this burden off your head you will feel a whole lot better and a whole lot happier.

Also forgiveness isn’t always for the big things. Forgiveness starts at the grassroots. If somebody accidently drops their coffee on you, learn to say that it’s okay.  These small things can pile up and get you, so it’s best to nip the evil in the bud.

Surround yourself with family and friends

This is the tip I find most effective. By surrounding yourself with family, friends and other people you love you are practically dragging happiness towards you.

Family and friends always give you that little boost when your down, they make you smile and laugh and overall they make your life more fun.

Here is a quote that always makes me smile and will help you understand happiness:

“Well,” said Pooh, “what I like best,” and then he had to stop and think.  Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn’t know what it was called.  ~A.A. Milne
