The coffee spill. The traffic jam. The difficult news you heard. Angry. Impatient. Hurt. See where I’m going? Signs that the day started with negative emotion.

There are times when we think nothing is worth it. We just wanna give up.
There are times when we feel even less motivated than normal.
But if you are on a quest to greatness and you have convinced yourself that you can do it –then the feeling of demotivation is the only obstacle standing in your way.

How do we convince ourselves that a bad day was just a bad day? That it is not directly linked to our lives? Why do we immediately tell ourselves that this isn’t working out –just because you are late or simply because you spilled coffee in your shirt?

Do we keep on criticizing ourselves or do we breathe and tell ourselves that it will be okay? What is there this constant voice in our heads that keeps telling us that we aren’t good enough?

Breathe.

I know that the day just started with bad news or perhaps the meeting didn’t go quite the way you planned or your friends didn’t turn out to be as supportive as you thought they would be. Does that mean we keep blaming ourselves and tell ourselves, “Yes I know you said that you could do it but guess what, you can’t”?

Stop right there. Just stop. Don’t tell yourself that.

Keeping yourself motivated will ultimately benefit you to succeed in life. Just keep in mind that there is no one else in this world who can motivate you unless and until you decide to do it yourself.

Here are my ways to be motivated

1. Decide

“You are not the victim of the world, but rather the master of your own destiny. It is your choices and decisions that determine your destiny.”

― Roy T. Bennett

Before anything, you need to decide to be motivated. You are in charge of your own destiny and you cannot let yourself drown in negative thoughts. It is up to you to decide whether you want to drown into nothingness or rise up like a phoenix.

Tell yourself that you can do it. Tell yourself that you are good enough. So what if that meeting didn’t go your way? You will figure it out. Everybody does and you will too. Just decide to accept whatever comes your way and keep it together because there is always a solution.

2. Keep a Journal

It always helps to get your feelings out. I understand that we are not always comfortable sharing our deepest and darkest secrets. So write it out in your journal. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to make sense. Just write.

Write whatever comes to mind. Write whatever you want to. It doesn’t matter. But make sure you are pouring your heart out. I can vouch for this because I have always been a person who kept a journal and it really helped me through my happiest and difficult times.

Often when I couldn’t figure things out my journal would always be a resort to which I could vent.

3. Read Inspirational Quotes

Ever since I was a little girl I loved reading quotes. I don’t know how but it kind of moves me without even trying. I have been moved by so many quotes like seriously, my life has changed ever since I have adopted this practice.

The best app that I would recommend is Pinterest. That is where I read quotes too. And there is a lot to explore and that app practically saved my life.

So read quotes about love, life, faith, success. Whatever works best for you. It feels good –and believe me when I say this.

Quotes are short or long phrases that sum up that can almost always sum up the way you feel or somehow help find solutions to a problem. One quote that always helps me to feel at peace with my self and my choices is:

“Always make decisions that prioritize your inner peace.”

― Izey Victoria Odiase

This is literally making me feel more at peace right now! Now it’s your turn. Go ahead. Try it. Find a quote (or quotes) that resonates with you and your feelings right now.
I guarantee it will help!

4. Listen to Music

Music can be anything. Whether it’s the sound of rain or the ocean. Everything has its own music so ultimately it is up to your taste.

I like to listen to music which I can dance to. Dancing to music sometimes goes a long way. It helps release endorphins in your brain which ultimately makes you happy.

So try this one out. Listen to music and dance!

5. Take Some Time Off

It’s always a great idea to make time for yourself. Pushing yourself hard and constantly working isn’t going to help you achieve your goals if you don’t take time off to reflect on yourself and how far you’ve come.

Assess your goals. Make a checklist. List out the things you love doing. Watch movies.

Spending some time with yourself is one of the best ways to motivate yourself. You will feel refreshed and ready for a new start.

Keeping ourselves motivated is completely up to us. How good we are in being consistent is key.

Always remember,  YOU are entirely up to YOU.
