I really love this quote by Maria Robinson. It has given me hope and courage in dark times that things can change for the better and that I can change my life.
Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending. – Maria Robinson
I think sometimes we get so caught up in the past that we forget how much power we really have to change and improve. When you really think about it what is really stopping you from turning the page on a bad situation and writing a new chapter in your life. If you are honest to yourself for most people this answer is yourself. Sometimes our brains our own biggest enemies. We want a lot of things and instead of taking responsibility and taking firm action — we make excuses and blame the external for problems that very often have internal problems.
Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to start a business? Do you want to be in a loving relationship? Do you want to be respected and appreciated? Most people will answer “Yes” to these questions but will follow this answer with a list of “external” reasons why they can’t have this or fulfill this goal. The moment you start blaming you have already lost. If you want to change your life you have to accept responsibility and develop an internal locus of control. YOU are the master of your own destiny and YOU decide your future, NOT the world.
I made this post to help you start making baby steps in the right direction. These tips will help you make small micro-changes that will have a powerful and profound effect on your life. These 8 habits helped me change my life and I hope you also can use this positive energy to conquer your larger problems and pursue your dreams & goals!
8 Things That Helped Me Profoundly Change My Life For The Better
1. Focus On One Task at a Time
If someone tells you that it’s possible to multitask, they are lying. Human beings are capable of doing only one thing at a time, so when people claim to be multitasking they are simply going back forth from one task to the other. So what does that mean? Don’t waste your energy pretending to multitask. Focus on one thing, one goal at a time, and work with nature rather than against it. We tend to overcomplicate our lives and overcomplicate our day to day tasks. You are not superman/superwoman and you do NOT need to handle everything at once. Break down your goals into smaller manageable, digestible chunks and process them one by one. If I told you to eat an entire pizza all together you would have a difficult time but If I told you to eat an entire pizza but you can cut it into slices you’ll enjoy it and have a great time. Apply this same principle in your day to day life as well!
By creating this change in your perspective, you will find that you are less stressed when it comes to completing tasks and that you will complete them more successfully.
2. Become Mentally & Physically Clean
The purity of the mind and body is the first step to a successful, fulfilled life. Have you noticed that when people are dealing with stressful issues and problems in their life they care less about their personal cleanliness? I’m sure there have been moments in your life as well where you did not shower for 3-4 days because your mind was so upset about a particular problem or situation. This second thing that changed my life is to NEVER let that happen again. No matter how difficult the world is no matter how messy the world is, you MUST keep your external self and your inner self clean and in order. This small switch in perspective is so powerful in keeping you level minded and performing at your best no matter what the world throws at you. The actual process of cleaning your mental and physical is a long one but here are some good starting points:
How to be Mentally Clean:
- Be mindful of your thoughts
- Be optimistic about the future
- Unclutter your mind
- Practice Self-Love
- Don’t let negativity consume you
How to be Physically Clean:
- Shower daily (practice taking occasional cold showers)
- Keep good oral hygiene
- Keep your hair maintained
- Wear perfume or cologne
- Dress in clean and comfortable clothes
3. Overcome A Single Bad Habit
This is easier said than done but a bad habit is like an anchor and the only way you will reach your true potential is by ridding yourself of it. We all have bad habits. Some are obviously more damaging than others but in principle, every bad habit holds you down. That is why I suggest you try and overcome one single bad habit regardless of how small it is. This small step in the right direction will have a profound effect on your self-confidence and improve your overall willpower. If you can overcome 1 bad habit, all of a sudden you will have the strength and positive energy to overcome another larger bad habit.
So whatever your bad habits are don’t let them weigh you down, decide today to change for the better and do something about it.
First we form habits, then they form us. Conquer your bad habits or they will conquer you. -Rob Gilbert quotes
4. Give Generously
If you choose to make only one change from this entire list, try to make it this one. Generous giving is the most beneficial thing a person can do for themselves. Â Why you might ask?
A couple of powerful reasons:
- Giving leads to receiving; by giving you get in return a sense of happiness, content, peace, and positivity.
- Giving creates a strong protective aura around you that saves you from many dangers
We are social creatures and our biology is made to give and interact with fellow humans around us. Why do you think it sometimes feels even better to give a gift than to receive one? Giving is in our DNA and giving is how the human species has survived so long. You were meant to give and true human fulfillment can only be achieved by giving back to our communities. So whether this means giving back by smiling to light up someone’s day, giving a compliment, or giving money for charity. Just start giving today and reap the rewards of peace and happiness in your own life.
5. Feel & Radiate Positivity
This one change is so vital that it will impact every aspect of your life. Positivity is a habit that if developed can make a person more successful, more content, and more at peace. I know this has become quite cliche in the personal development world, but it doesn’t mean it is any less important. Optimistic people are universally happier and more content in their lives than people who are more pragmatic and focus on the negatives first.
This simple shift from always thinking negative to allowing yourself to be hopeful about a good future can significantly make you a happier more satisfied person.
The positive thinker sees the invisible, feels the intangible, and achieves the impossible.
6. Kindness & Compassion
Make it a daily habit to shower kindness and compassion on everyone around you. This quick and easy change will drastically make your life better. You will notice that people will treat you better, you will feel more loved and you will feel better about yourself. Kindness is universally attractive and will attract a lot of good into your life. Have you heard the saying “what goes around, comes around”? I really feel when it comes to relationships this is very true. If you treat others with respect and kindness, others will always treat you with respect and kindness as well.
So try to start with one person at a time rather than looking at the big picture. For example, try to say one nice thing to your spouse every single day. I can guarantee you that if you aren’t usually one to give compliments even this tiny shift will not just significantly improve your relationship but also bring in return a lot of positive vibes in your life,
7. Set Goals & Have A Purpose
Living a life without goals or purpose is like shooting an arrow without a target in mind; it’s pointless. So starting today try to incorporate this small change in mindset in everything you do. Be purposeful! Make it a habit to make goals, no matter how small, and practice achieving them one by one. A life lived with no aim is a life that was lived without realizing its full potential.Â
You must ALWAYS have a purpose in your life. Just like how still water goes bad, a still mind also goes bad. So it is extremely important to keep yourself planning, moving, and excited for a new goal or task. Always keep in mind that your body is a machine and that by not using it, it begins to atrophy (waste away). So if you desire happiness and peace in your life, don’t aim for a life of stagnation but a life of action until the very day you die.
8. Be Thankful & Practice Daily Gratitude
Gratitude is the pillar stone of happiness. If you are not grateful you can never truly find happiness. There will always be something else and something nicer, bigger, or more luxurious. If you keep chasing after things your whole life and never take a moment to stop and appreciate everything you have. You will spend your entire life in vain chasing happiness while it runs even further ahead.
Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough. – Oprah Winfrey
Ponder and think about:
- What you’re fortunate to have…
- What you’re fortunate to not have…
- What you’re glad to have experienced…
- What you’re glad to have not experienced…
So in the end I really hope and pray these tips will help you to change your life for the better! These 8 things helped me profoundly change my life. I hope by implementing them in your life, you too will overcome your issues, problems & live your life to its full potential!
