When facing difficult situations or problems, people generally tend to forget procedures or technique. They simply want to end the issue they have at hand and therefore approach their problem incorrectly or too impatiently. This not just blows the issue out of proportion but it also makes the issue even harder to handle. These strategies will help you approach problems in the correct way, so that whenever you do face problems you won’t get overwhelmed by them and that you will be able to defeat them.
1. Identify and Classify the Problem
Whenever you face a problem the first thing you should always do is take a step back and identify the problem. Take a different perspective and give yourself a different standpoint. People tend to jump right away into conclusions, and this makes them only more confused.
If you classify your problem right away (who, what, when, where, why) it will give your mind some support and from this support you can build your solution.
2. Find the Root
There is no point in finding solutions, unless you are targeting the root of the problem. The reason why is because it’s impossible to completely get rid of a problem unless you hit its origin.
It’s very important to determine the root to your problem, because this root will actually be the foundation for your solution.
3. Play out Possible Solutions in Your Head
Never jump into a solution because it’s very likely you will regret it. A solution is a very sensitive thing because if used wrong your solution could make the problem even larger.
Always play out possible solution scenarios in your head and think it through, after you have decided on a certain idea, it’s time to assess it.
4. Pros/Cons
After you have a certain idea in mind it’s time to analyze it. I suggest using the pros/cons (positives/negatives) method as it’s the most effective. List all the possible positives and negatives, and see which side weighs more.
5. Build an Action Plan
After you have thoroughly thought through your solution, it’s time for you to start building on an action plan. If not in writing, mentally plan everything you are going to do and get ready to defeat your problem.
6. Take Action
Take the required actions, pray, and hope for the best.
Tip: This outline is very general and it should be followed according to your time restraints. If you’re thinking on your feet it might be best to quickly run through the procedure. But if you do have time, it’s best to go through the procedure a couple of times before actually taking action.
The more prepared you are, the better your results will be.
