What is peace? According to the dictionary, it is āthe absence of mental stress or anxietyā. So you know those moments in life, where everything feels perfect? When your life finally feels like it is in order and all the puzzle pieces are coming together? Essentially, that is what peace is. In this present modern society, finding peace in your life is treated as a fad or as something that canāt really be achieved. This happens because nobody cares to wonder or even try to achieve peace in life.
As for me, I totally disagree with the idea that you canāt find peace. That is precisely why I am writing this article today, to teach you that itās very possible to live a peaceful life and reach that stage of tranquillity and comfort.
Finding Peace in Your Life in 5 Ways:
1.Ā Deep Breathing
In your life, you may have seen someone take a deep breath when they are stressed, anxious, angry, etc. Deep breathing is a method that has been around for centuries.Ā You may have also seen it be used in various activities such as yoga, meditation, even stretching!
Deep breathing helps to remove stress from your body. When youāre stressed your muscles become tense and your breathing becomes more shallow and fast. By taking deep breaths not just in stressed moments of your life, but every now and then,Ā you will begin to feel calmer and at peace.
2. Avoid Stressful Situations
In your life, you are always going to encounter people who are negative and carry a strong aura of negativity around them. Regardless of whether this person is a close friend or family, it is best to take yourself out of these situations. If the situation is targeted towards you or even remotely involves you, be sure to speak to the other individual in a calm and respectful manner. Despite how bad a situation, you are in control of yourself and can choose whether or not to escalate the situation.
You are also going to receive negative news, hear negative stories and see negative media. As you know negative things sell. So to find peace in your life you must try to avoid these negative influences as much as possible. There is no need to gain extra stress.
3. Learn to Get Over It and Move On
Most times it is our fault that we are stressed and anxious. The biggest problems you will have in your life will be the ones you make up in your mind. We as humans are hardwired to worry and regret. If you can simply admit, āI canāt change the past and I should move on.ā You are already a bit calmer and in the long run, will be more peaceful.
Sometimes, you may feel at your lowest point in life. Something I try to do when life gets me down is thinking about what all this will mean to me in 1-3 years time. While it can be difficult thinking that far ahead, it is really good for finding peace in your life.
4. Smile and Laugh
Smiling and laughter are two never-failing methods in life, which you can use to remove any mental stress and anxiety and replace it with peace. Laughter is something that can help you momentarily forget about any stresses in your life. It allows you to feel lighter and calmer.
As Dr. Madan Kataria once said,
I have not seen anyone dying of laughter, but I know millions who are dying because they are not laughing.
5. Count Your Blessings
You might laugh at this step, but seriously your mother was right. Finding peace can come from simply counting your blessings you are looking at the positives of life. Growing up, one thing my mother constantly used to tell me was before going to sleep, make a mental list of all the good things in my life, for example, even the smallest things we take for granted; like our hands and feet. When we make a list of all these small things that make up our life,Ā it automatically creates a positive mindset inside of us. This positive mindset allows us to be more humble and stress-free. Ultimately resulting in us being an overall, more peaceful person.
Remember these steps arenāt in any particular order; use them all together to truly find peace in your life.
In the end, I would like to present you a quote to help you on your journey to peace:
āEach one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.ā- Ā Mahatma Gandhi
